The so-called foreign minister of occupied Abkhazia, Oleg Bartsits, called the Georgian establishment’s aspiration to reintegrate Abkhazia “utopian” in an interview with Russian media.
Asked why Abkhazia and Georgia have not signed a non-use of force agreement, Bartsits claimed the Georgian leadership “has not yet overcome the phantom pains.”
“A large part of the Georgian establishment still dreams of Abkhazia returning to Georgia. This is a utopia,” he said.
Bartsits added that “some sensible politicians in Georgia already understand that Abkhazia will not return to their territory, even if they don’t say it openly.”
