The Ministry of Internal Affairs reports that Nika Melia, leader of the Coalition for Change, has been detained on administrative charges.
The ministry says Melia was arrested under Article 173 of Georgia’s Code of Administrative Offenses, which relates to verbal abuse or other offensive actions against law enforcement officers during or in connection with the performance of their official duties.
“Nika Melia was detained under Article 173 of the Administrative Offenses Code, which concerns verbal abuse and/or offensive actions toward law enforcement officers in the line of duty. He will be brought before the court in accordance with legal procedures for consideration of the case and a decision,” the ministry stated.
