The first Vice Prime Minister and Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili announced that Georgia may open its long-awaited Anaklia Deep Sea Port ahead of schedule by the end of 2027.
Speaking at an economic forum, Davitashvili said the state’s decision to fund the project without waiting for investors was key: “We made the only correct decision… We will have much more favourable conditions to talk with partners.”Having confirmed that construction began last year and is now moved beyond the preparatory stage, legal and environmental clearances are nearly complete.
The port is expected to spark wider economic development. “A port is not just a berth where ships unload,” Davitashvili noted. “Many economic activities will develop consistently in Anaklia.”
New road and rail infrastructure will also be built to support the project, aimed at boosting Georgia’s position as a regional transit hub.
