“Georgia welcomes the de-escalation steps on the Ukrainian border,” President Salome Zurabishvili wrote on social media.
“Georgia shares with Ukraine the same concerns about stability and territorial integrity. Support by international partners are proving to be effective,” the President stated.
The above refers to the recent statement by the Russian Ministry of Defense, saying the process of withdrawal of troops from Crimea and return to the places of permanent dislocation began “after the completion of the unexpected inspection process.”
“Russia has reportedly begun to withdraw troops deployed near Ukraine and annexed Crimea after deeming its military exercises over on Thursday. The enormous deployment, including dozens of navy ships, hundreds of warplanes and thousands of troops, was heavily criticized by Western powers, with many seeing it as a show of force amid tensions with Ukraine,” Euronews reported.
In a statement run by Russian news agency TASS, Russia’s Defense Ministry said troops had “begun to return to their permanent stations” on Friday.
