President Zurabishvili: I will remain the primary point of contact for our American and European partners as there is no other legitimate authority in Georgia

In an interview with France 24, the President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, stated, “I will establish a council comprising civil society and political parties. We will serve as a transitional force, but our primary goal is to ensure new elections take place.”

She emphasized, “None of Georgia’s democratic partners recognized these elections, which is crucial. They are sending a technical mission to assist us in preparing for new elections.”

Zurabishvili also mentioned her upcoming discussions, saying, “Today, I will speak with President Duda of Poland, and tomorrow, I will meet with the newly elected representatives of the European Commission. Over the next few days, I will be in touch with all my colleagues.”

She affirmed, “I will remain the primary and legitimate point of contact for our American and European partners, as there is no other legitimate authority in Georgia. Alongside a council of civil society and political parties, we will be a transitional, stabilizing force in this country. However, we must reach the elections because there is no room for maintaining a transitional authority that lacks the legitimate support of the Georgian people.”

Regarding her role, Zurabishvili said, “As for my voice, which is my only strength, it is clear that this is the only voice the people of Georgia want to hear. Today, I am probably the most popular independent political figure in this country, and I intend to remain loyal to this population.”
