The Georgian people met only violence and repression at the peaceful demonstration, they refuse to become a Russian colony. The announcement about this is made by the Helsinki Commission of the US Congress on its website.
“The Georgian people took to the streets for a peaceful demonstration for their sovereignty, democracy and European future and were met only by violence and repression. They refuse to become a Russian colony.
“Stand by the side of the Georgian people!” – writes the Helsinki Commission.
For the record, at a rally last night, riot police hit protesters and media with water jets and used tear gas and disproportionate force, as a result of which dozens of protesters and journalists were injured, including ‘Formula’ journalist Guram Rogava, who suffered particularly forceful injuries, with his neck immobilized and his maxillofacial injuries having to be examined by neurosurgeons. Per the statement, his injuries do not require any surgery and his condition is “satisfactory.”
