Roth: The gov’t of Georgia refused to talk to us

The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the German Bundestag, Michael Roth, who is visiting Georgia, states that the Government of Georgia refused to meet with the Chairmen of the Foreign Relations Committees of the Parliaments of European countries.

Roth stated that the delegation was hosted only by the chairman of the Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze, and even that at the party’s office, not at Parliament.

“The Georgian government refused to talk to us. We are not here to teach, we are here to listen to each other. Only the chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze, received us. He hosted us not in the parliament, but in the headquarters of the Georgian Dream party,” writes Roth on X.

Roth calls the “Dream” “Georgian nightmare” and says that despite the adoption of the law on “foreign agents” by the Parliament of Georgia today, the Georgian people will not stop on the way to the European Union.

Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the German Bundestag Michael Roth, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Czech Parliament Pavel Fischer, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Polish Parliament Bogdan Klich, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Lithuanian Parliament Žygimantas Pavlionis and Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Finnish Parliament Sebastian Tinkinen are on a visit to Georgia.

At the same time, US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O’Brien is in Georgia. He met Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze. Within the framework of the visit, the US Assistant Secretary of State wanted to meet with the Honorary Chairman of Georgian Dream Bidzina Ivanishvili, but as Prime Minister Kobakhidze said yesterday, May 13, Ivanishvili refused to meet with O’Brien.

On May 13, the member of the parliamentary majority, “People’s Power”, called on the government not to meet the delegation of foreign ministers of the above-mentioned and 4 other countries (Lithuania, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia), and to discuss the feasibility of their entry into the country.
