President: Georgian people will never allow the pro-Russian gov’t to remain in power

It is clear that the population of Georgia will never allow the government, which is clearly pro-Russian, to remain its government, because it is against its basic existential choice, which Georgia has always made throughout its centuries-old history and which will not change, – the President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, told CNN.

She claimed that the vast majority of the population of Georgia supports the country’s integration with the Euro-Atlantic community, and this choice has never changed.

“We are a candidate country for the European Union and we are very close to the process of starting negotiations, which Ukraine and Moldova have already started. All Georgians feel like Europeans, 80 percent of the population of Georgia, for the past 30 years, has consistently declared that they want to join the European Union and the Atlantic community. This is something that nothing could change, neither war, nor the occupation of the territory – the strength of the population is unbreakable and will not change, and it is this strength that will lead us to the elections in October this year, and I am sure that like last year, when we got the candidate status, this year we will get the decision on the start of accession negotiations,” the President noted.
