“Our duty is to appreciate the sacrifice of the generations, to appreciate by maintaining the liberty, identity and independence which our hero ancestors have been aspiring to; our duty is to maintain and even enhance it in their commemoration. It is the dream they had, the dream about the country, which would be free from the dictate of a foreign state, a country without rules imposed, a free country with all its state institutions. It is our duty to keep our country free, without imposed ruling and to ensure that all state institutions are in due operation,” the Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili addressed the attendees of the event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the execution of the members of the “Military Center” by shooting.

The Speaker dwelt on the activity of the members of the Military Center, highlighting that they manifested that the sovietization and occupation of Georgia did not end in 192,1 and that these processes have always been resisted by the Georgian nation. Speaker Papuashvili welcomed the descendants of the members of the Military Center and emphasized the merit of their ancestors.

“Many of them sacrificed their lives, others sacrificed their dreams of an independent country to the possibility to live in a free country; though, despite all these sacrifices and victims, this idea was never suppressed. I would like to deliver a special welcome to the descendants of our hero ancestors and highlight that it is the greatest pride indeed to be Georgian, and that our ancestors were praiseworthy Georgians. But I imagine the hundred-fold happiness when these are your very ancestors. I would like to thank you for commemorating them and maintaining this pride and joy for our nation,” the Speaker stated.
