UNM Signs April 19 Agreement Mediated by Charles Michel

US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan stated in response to a question regarding deoligarchization that issue behind de-oligarchization in any country is how to address undue influence by anyone in the political or the economic processes of a country, anyone who’s trying to influence the operation of government and society through excess money or influence

“This is an important issue for many countries, including my country. There are many ways that countries deal with undue influence in the political sector. All countries need to talk about this issue and come to their own solutions. I personally don’t think that taking something without taking into account the specifics of your country will work well, but there are many good examples that you can study and take something that is relevant to Georgia,” stated Degnan.

She added that more time needs to be spent highlighting the problem of undue influence affecting the political will of the population. “Everyone must work on transparency, accountability, and a level playing field so that the voice of the population is heard.”
