Bakuriani itself is popular with both Georgians and foreign visitors to the country, especially among families and couples, as it meets the needs of people of any age and taste.
Bakuriani is one of the most beautiful mountain resorts in the world. It is located in the Borjomi gorge, on the northern slope of the Trialeti Ridge, at 1700 meters (5576 feet) above sea level. The true beauty of Bakuriani is Kokhtagora (2155 m), from where the peaks of the Caucasus Mountains can be seen.
A vacation in Bakuriani is a healing experience for all, as the wider area around Bakuriani is covered by coniferous forests, particularly spruce, which makes the air amazingly fresh. When the cones blossom at the end of May, the air becomes even more beneficial for the lungs, and many tourists head there to breath deep during the spring.
At the resort, numerous exciting winter sports competitions have taken and are expected to take place, so visitors are sure not get bored.

This ski season, Komorebi Bakuriani promises visitors something special. The hotel constantly aims to arrange entertaining events for its guests on a daily basis. During the day, in the beautiful snowy yard of the hotel, visitors can enjoy DJ performances accompanied by the taste of delicious hot mulled wine.
The facility is well-arranged and adapted for family vacations, as the resort itself is frequently visited by families. The highly qualified staff of the resort constantly strives to provide maximal comfort for them.
The name of the resort, “Komorebi,” comes from a Japanese word meaning “the interaction of the sunlight on the leaves of a tree,” because there is a forest located just behind the resort. And the resort actually justifies the name by creating pleasant and warm environment for its visitors!
The facility actively cares for its little guests. There are two spaces for children in the resort: closed and open. In the closed space, animators take care of to make sure your kids have fun, while in the open space there is a children’s playground, where they can play in the fresh air.
As Bakuriani is mainly associated with skiing, ski equipment hire is available at Komorebi. All the guests have to grab and get skiing in the amazingly beautiful snow-covered mountains between the spruce and pine trees.
Once they get tired from skiing and having fun outside, they can rest in a cozy and comfortable restaurant and bar located inside the resort and enjoy delicious dishes and drinks, including a wide selection of bakery products and a scrumptious pastry line. Various dishes prepared by professional chefs and combined Georgian-European cuisine will make the vacation even more pleasant.
Spending an evening at Komorebi is especially enjoyable. A continuous cycle of events and a variety of thematic evenings and musical adventures is ongoing for holidaymakers.
In the main restaurant of the resort, salon evenings are held from Monday to Thursday with the performance of piano man, which is then continued by DJ or saxophonist, meaning guests can enjoy live music on a daily basis.
Various bands are creating a positive mood for visitors until March 15. Afterwards, future events will be planned based on the flow of visitors and considering the epidemiological situation.
Director of the Hotel, Irakli Chigladze, notes that despite certain difficulties created by the pandemic in the hospitality sector in general, 2021 was successful for the hotel and is still “not bad” for the local resorts, as the country received visitors from many countries, especially from Ukraine, Poland and Israel (until mid-August, when the later declared Georgia red zone due to the rapid spread of Coronavirus).
Chigladze notes that the ski season started very actively from December 25 at both Georgia’s most popular winter resorts, Bakuriani and Gudauri. However, the first weeks of January were marked with the rapid spread of Omicron and the flow of holidaymakers and the duration of their stay was reduced. At Komorebi, he adds, safety regulations and standards are strictly observed, including accepting guests with ‘Green Passports’ only.
Of 2022, the director of Komorebi has positive expectations, as the resort has already received an impressive number of bookings. Furthermore, the recent relative weakening of the severity of new strains of Coronavirus gives him grounds for optimism.
“We hope that the pandemic will end in 2022. Our foreign partners have the same hopes and expectations. They are implementing marketing campaigns and making hotel reservations more boldly. So, the upcoming 2022 looks like it will be much better and more fruitful for the hospitality industry as a whole,” he notes.
Chigladze mentions his gratitude to the National Tourism Administration and their hard work in these difficult times to support the industry.
“They helped us a huge amount in terms of popularization of local tourism, from inviting well-known influencers to the local resorts, to getting us into various important international exhibitions. This was great support for us, the private sector. Through their help, our whole team participated in the exhibition in Dubai at the end of September, and Georgia had its own stand at there for a whole month, which was an unprecedented amount of time.
“Also, there are plans to open several offices of the National Tourism Administration in foreign countries in 2022, which will also greatly help us, the private sector, to work to expand operations rapidly,” he says.
The Director of Komorebi also notes the development potential of Bakuriani as a ski resort. In 2025, the Winter Youth Olympic Games are to be held there, which itself will further popularize it and attract more visitors to the area.
The Evaluation Commission of the European Committee visited Bakuriani on February 6, 2020, in order to explore potential locations for the competition and all the necessary infrastructure, including ski-lifts. At that time, Peter Brull, the Head of the EOC, noted that Bakuriani has excellent conditions for skiing and snowboarding competitions.
“2025 is expected to be the year of peak workload for the resorts in Bakuriani. Until then, we’re already in communication with foreign experts and famous sportsmen, who will be regularly visiting the resort before the competition to assess the environment and exercise,” Chigladze says. “So, lots of pleasant events and fun activities await our holidaymakers, and, in turn, we’ll spare no effort to give them unforgettable moments and a completely new level of vacation experience,” he adds.
Considering all the above, you can clearly see the wonderful and unforgettable journey awaiting you at Komorebi, so while choosing where to stay for the perfect winter vacation, do not hesitate to pack your bags and head to Bakuriani!
