Economy Minister: WizzAir to Resume Flights from Kutaisi at the End of March

Economy Minister Natia Turnava

“A debt of one and a half million GEL is to be written off for radio broadcasting companies,” announced Georgian Economy Minister, Natia Turnava at a briefing after today’s government session.

The minister noted that up to 24 radio channels had appealed to the Communications Commission and the Ministry of Economy to write off the debt.

“State-owned company Georgian Teleradiocenter Ltd owns towers throughout Georgia. Through the towers, we provide frequencies to different radio broadcasters. We and the regulatory commission were approached by 24 broadcasting companies, who asked for forgiveness of the accumulated debt to this Teleradiocenter Ltd, which accumulated due to the coronavirus pandemic,” said Turnava.

She noted this argument was fully acceptable for the government because indeed, the main source of income for radio broadcasters is advertising.

“Therefore, the government shared their demand and in total, a debt of about half a million GEL is being written off, and also, by the end of the year, the service fee will be forgiven for radio broadcasting companies. We wish them success,” said the Minister.
