Georgia’s Ministry of Education, Science and Youth has postponed the implementation of certain requirements for teachers’ salary payments until the 2027–2028 academic year.
Under the decision, teachers will have additional time to confirm their competence in the subjects or educational levels they teach. The subject examination will be held twice, in both summer and winter, giving teachers two opportunities to meet the requirement.
Teachers will also be able to take free intensive subject-preparation courses offered by the National Center for Teacher Professional Development.
The ministry said the extension is intended to support teachers and ensure the continuity of the educational process in schools. The original requirement, introduced from the 2026–2027 academic year, stipulated that teachers must have confirmed competence in the subject or level they teach in order to receive increased hourly pay.
The ministry urged teachers to use the transition period to prepare for the new requirements.
