Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi has responded to US President Donald Trump’s social media post depicting the Strait of Hormuz as “New US Territory,” warning that Iran would “correct” what he described as Trump’s delusion over the strategic waterway.
“Just as Trump correctly wrote the name of the eternal Persian Gulf, soon his delusion regarding the Strait of Hormuz will either be corrected, or we will correct this confused man’s delusion,” Gharibabadi wrote on social media.
His remarks came after Trump posted an image of a map of the Strait of Hormuz on Truth Social accompanied by the caption “New US Territory.”
Trump has made several statements in recent weeks about declaring the Strait of Hormuz US territory. On Monday, when asked by reporters at the White House about the prospect of declaring the strategic waterway US territory, Trump called it a “great idea.”
