US President Donald Trump has posted an image of a map of the Strait of Hormuz on his Truth Social account with the caption “New US Territory.”
The post comes after Trump made several remarks in recent weeks about declaring the Strait of Hormuz US territory.
Speaking to reporters at the White House on Monday, Trump was asked about the idea of declaring the strategic waterway US territory and responded that it was a “great idea.”
The Strait of Hormuz is a strategically important waterway connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea and is one of the world’s most important routes for oil and gas shipments.
