The Interior Ministry says Adjara TV and Radio journalist Koba Partenadze has been detained for verbally insulting police officers on multiple occasions and for minor hooliganism.

The ministry told Interpressnews that Partenadze verbally insulted law enforcement officers at a police station on August 16.

“Koba Partenadze was detained under Articles 166 and 173 of the Administrative Offenses Code for verbally insulting police officers on multiple occasions and for minor hooliganism” the ministry said.

“On August 16, while being questioned as a witness in one of the criminal cases related to him, Koba Partenadze verbally insulted law enforcement officers. Administrative proceedings were launched over the incident.

In addition, during the night of August 16, the individual was loudly swearing and disturbing public order in Batumi. Law enforcement officers repeatedly ordered him to stop the unlawful conduct, but he failed to comply with their demands and insulted the police officers,”.

On August 10, Adjara Public Broadcaster presenter Koba Partenadze said he had been repeatedly insulted, threatened and physically harassed. Two people, Giorgi Aptsiauri and Zurab Kontselidze, were later detained over alleged threats and violence against him and have since been released on GEL 7,000 bail each. On August 17, Partenadze’s lawyer said the journalist had been detained under administrative law.
