The shift manager of the Customs Checkpoint “Red Bridge” has been arrested on charges of taking a large bribe, the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia says.
The Investigation Service, in coordination with the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia and the Revenue Service, states that the official promised a citizen assistance in importing $200,000 without mandatory declaration. In exchange, he allegedly demanded $8,000 in each case.
The official was arrested immediately after receiving part of the requested amount – $4,000.
The Investigation Service says that, following covert investigative measures approved by a court, audio and video evidence of the alleged crime has been obtained.
The case is being investigated under Article 338, Part Two, Subparagraph “b” of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carries a prison sentence of 7 to 11 years.
