Two people have been arrested in separate corruption cases, the Investigative Service of the Ministry of Finance says.
In the first case, investigators say a Poti City Hall service centre employee used his official position to demand 400 GEL from a citizen in exchange for arranging work with municipal equipment on a land plot on the municipality’s balance sheet.
The case is being investigated under Article 221(3) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carries a prison term of 2 to 4 years.
In a separate case, a ranger of the Javakheti Protected Areas has been arrested on charges of demanding and accepting a 600 GEL bribe in exchange for allowing the extraction of fertile soil from a state-owned forest area.
The investigation is being conducted under Article 338(1) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for imprisonment of 6 to 9 years.
