The founders of Kinderly Georgia have been sentenced to 10 years in prison each, the Prosecutor’s Office says, accusing them of large-scale embezzlement by prior agreement using their official positions.

Prosecutors claim the defendants embezzled more than 2,060,006 GEL belonging to prospective parents and surrogate mothers.

The Prosecutor’s Office says the defendants established Kinderly Georgia LLC in Tbilisi as an intermediary between biological parents and surrogate mothers, signing contracts to arrange in vitro fertilisation and surrogacy services.

It further alleges that, instead of covering surrogate mothers’ expenses and contractual payments, the defendants misappropriated funds provided mainly by citizens of China.

Radio Liberty reported that Kinderly had failed to pay surrogate mothers for months, with some women in difficult health conditions left without compensation and struggling in restrictive living conditions.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs launched an investigation after Radio Liberty published an article in April 2025 describing allegations of surrogate mothers being held in a closed facility and left without payments.
