Trump says US-Iran ceasefire on ‘life support’ after rejecting Tehran’s ‘unacceptable’ proposal

The fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran appeared increasingly uncertain, as US President Donald Trump described the agreement as being on “life support” and sharply criticized Tehran’s latest peace proposal, calling it “unacceptable.”

Speaking to reporters, Trump said the ceasefire was “unbelievably weak” following Washington’s rejection of Iran’s recent proposal aimed at easing tensions. Despite diplomatic efforts, both sides remain deeply divided over the future of Iran’s nuclear program and regional security concerns.

Trump said the United States remains firm in negotiations with Tehran, emphasizing that Washington will not soften its stance regarding Iran’s nuclear ambitions. “We’re staying very strong,” the US president said, reiterating longstanding concerns over uranium enrichment and regional stability.

Meanwhile, Iran signaled it has no intention of abandoning its uranium enrichment program, insisting that its “right” to continue nuclear development must be preserved. Iranian officials maintained that enrichment remains a sovereign issue and rejected external pressure to dismantle the country’s nuclear infrastructure.

Trump also revealed that a “large group of generals” is awaiting his decision on possible next steps in the conflict, suggesting that military options remain under consideration if diplomacy fails.

Adding to mounting pressure on Tehran, the United States announced new sanctions against 12 entities accused of facilitating Iranian oil shipments to China. The sanctions target companies allegedly involved in helping Iran bypass existing restrictions on oil exports, a move likely to further strain relations between Washington, Tehran and Beijing.

The announcement comes as Trump is expected to travel to Beijing later this week for talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, with trade, security and Iran expected to feature prominently on the agenda.

In another development, the United Arab Emirates has reportedly been carrying out military strikes against Iran during an operation known as “Epic Fury,” as reported by Fox News. Details surrounding the operation remain limited, and Emirati authorities have not publicly commented on the claims.

The latest developments underscore growing uncertainty surrounding the already fragile ceasefire, as diplomatic negotiations appear stalled and tensions continue to simmer across the region.
