The International Letter-Writing Competition of the Universal Postal Union organized by the Georgian Post with the support of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia and the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia was held for the 8th time this year.

At the event held at the Georgian National Museum, the jury revealed 3 best works, in addition, the authors of favorite letters of the Ministry of Economy and  Sustainable Development and the Ministry of Education and Science were revealed. These are:

As a result, the award ceremony for the author/country winner of the World Postal Union International Competition will be held on October 9, 2021, International Post Day, at the headquarters of the World Postal Union (Bern – Switzerland).

The International Postal Union International Letter Writing Competition, founded in 1971 at the World Postal Union Tokyo Congress, marks its 50th anniversary this year. Every year, millions of teenagers take part in the competition worldwide. In 192 member countries of the World Postal Union, national operators run the competition, as a result of which the winners from different countries continue to compete internationally. The jury of the ‘World Postal Union’ will reveal the winning country.

The theme of the 2021 competition, set by the World Postal Union for all countries, was “Write a letter to your family member about your experience of the Covid-19 pandemic.” The aim of the competition is to restore, establish and encourage the letter writing tradition among the young generation and to maintain written communication in the age of modern technology.

Importantly, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Georgian Post and the National Archives of Georgia, in the framework of which up to 50 selected letters will be transferred to the archive, as these letters are a unique experience and content related to the pandemic, therefore very interesting for future generations.

Notably, this year, 597 teenagers participated in the competition throughout Georgia. All participants were awarded certificates and gifts.
