Speaking in front of the Georgian Parliament on Independence Day, former President Salome Zurabishvili stressed the need to prioritize parliamentary elections—followed by local elections or held jointly. She said this approach requires new rules, already developed within the Resistance Platform.
Zurabishvili accused the ruling Georgian Dream party of trying to divide the opposition by pushing issues like self-government elections and parliamentary entry. “Their only strategy is division—a tactic of all authoritarian regimes,” she said.
She emphasized unity, pointing to widespread protests across regions like Gori, Batumi, and Zugdidi. “Victory depends on unity, determination, and public mobilization. These protests are the foundation of international support and upcoming sanctions targeting those in power—not the people,” she noted.
Zurabishvili called for the creation of a trusted political alternative and urged immediate preparation for elections, including organizing observers and mobilizing the diaspora. “No party can win alone. We must protect every vote and see this mission through to the end.”
