The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, who is in Moldova on an official visit, stated that the entry of Russian citizens into Georgia is indeed a challenge, and it is possible that the country will have to review its fairly liberal visa regime.
“The entry of Russian citizens into Georgia is really a challenge. I wouldn’t say a threat, but a challenge yes. Some are former citizens of Georgia who are coming today from the conditions that exist in Russia. Others are Russian citizens who come to Georgia for various reasons. The main thing is for the public to be sure that all the control mechanisms are used and that there is no danger. For this, I think, more communication is needed, more information for our society, that in all respects, all possible threats and all possible issues are actually considered by the government, that all measures are taken.
“It is not ruled out that we will have to review the visa regime, which is quite liberal in today’s conditions and which may be less acceptable in the conditions of this aggression, but all this is to be decided by the government together with the public, perhaps this is the most important thing,” said Zurabishvili.
