“At this very important event, I represented Georgia, the Georgian public, and the entire population. I plan to hold meetings necessary to place our relations on the right track,” stated Georgia’s fifth president, Salome Zurabishvili, regarding her attendance at US President Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony.
She claimed that the United States and Georgia are true friends, and attending the inauguration was essential.
“I am pleased that I was able to attend the inauguration of the President of the United States. More accurately, it wasn’t just me attending; I represented Georgia, the Georgian public, and the entire population at this very important event.
This was significant because Georgia needed to be represented as a long-time partner and strategic ally of the United States. For 30 years, the US has been assisting Georgia in building its statehood. We are truly two friends, and this kind of presence at the event was necessary.
The first days were celebratory. Yesterday, there was one of the inaugural balls, and starting tomorrow, more business-oriented meetings will begin. After the inauguration, everyone has the opportunity to hold meetings, and I also plan to conduct discussions aimed at setting our relations on the right track—the level that befits Georgia and the United States,” stated Salome Zurabishvili.
