President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, claims the Georgian government is attempting to assassinate Mikheil Saakashvili, the former President of Georgia, and encourages the international community to intervene to preserve his life.
Zelensky requested the Georgian authorities to stop abusing Saakashvili and release him, given the threat to his life.
Zelensky tweeted, “right now, Ukrainian citizen, former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili is being slowly killed. The very fact that we still have to fight against such an attempt at de facto public execution of a person in Europe in XXl century is a disgrace!”
“Given the threat to his life, I urge Georgian authorities to recall their obligations under the European human rights protection norms, stop the abuse and set Mikheil free! Ukraine offered solutions. I urge the world to help save Mikheil’s life and prevent his execution,” Zelensky wrote in a subsequent tweet.
