I’m not sure that trying to be friends with a country that occupies your sovereign territories is wise, – said the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Yuri Kim, whose words are published by journalist Alex Raufoglu on X.
“Russia has invaded several neighboring countries for no good reason other than the desire to change history strangely and the belief that the Kremlin should rule the Near Abroad. Consider the fact that 20% of Georgia’s territory is still occupied by Russia. I’m not sure that trying to be friends with a country that has occupied your sovereign territories is wise,” said Yuri Kim.
Yuri Kim also spoke about relations with China.
“There are many accounts of how the People’s Republic of China uses technology, loans, debt traps, its involvement in infrastructure projects to create a dependency that ultimately does not benefit the local population and actually harms them. Ask the people of Montenegro what it was like to be trapped in debt. Ask Sri Lanka. This list is long. Ask your neighbors in the region what the close relationship with China is like,” Kim said.
