Women’s Fund in Georgia has released a statement in which they support and express solidarity with women’s human rights defenders.
The statement said that because human rights defenders are trying to change social norms, they are often the object of discrimination and slander.
“Public attitudes towards them are gendered and often sexualized. They are constantly at risk as society tries to bring them back to their traditional role as women and accuse them. This is all the more apparent and alarming when it comes to high-profile violations and high public interest cases.” The statement reads.
The Women’s Fund expresses solidarity with the staff of the organization “Partnership for Human Rights” and urges the state to take care of the safety of women human rights defenders and strengthen state institutions responsible for the protection of human rights.
