Winter season opens in Georgia’s ski resort Gudauri

Winter season in the popular ski resort of Gudauri has officially opened with a new infrastructure.

In his opening remarks, Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili said Gudauri would welcome visitors with new infrastructure costing GEL 70 million ($26 million).

“Two new ropeway systems were installed in the New Gudauri area, and the skiing area was expanded with a new six-kilometer-long track added to the existing 70-kilometer route.

Six-seater cable cars carrying 1,800-2,400 passengers per hour on 1,249- and 1,369-metre-long ropeways have also been added, as has fully new special equipment.

A snow shovel and snowmobile are also in service for the infrastructure, as are contactless check-in terminals on all cable cars, new information monitors, and new road and ski signage. This season, Gudauri will have a new rescue facility,” he claimed.

The Minister went on to say that the 2023 Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships, which were held in Gudauri and Bakuriani, had aided in promoting Georgian resorts.

“Every year, Georgia will host the World Cup rounds, as decided by the International Ski Federation (FIS). All of this will increase public knowledge of our ski resorts even more,” Davitashvili said.

More than 40 kilometers of artificial snow tracks and 28 new ropeway systems have been installed at domestic ski resorts, according to Deputy Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili’s statements.

“The growth of resorts is further stimulated by this. We are particularly pleased that increased investments in mountain and ski resorts have been made possible by Georgian government policy,” Kvrivishvili continued.
