At the Winter Olympic Games currently underway in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Georgia finished fourth in the figure skating team event, narrowly missing out on a bronze medal.
Georgian skater Nika Egadze performed his free programme in the men’s singles, earning 154.79 points from the judges.
Before Egadze’s skate, Georgia had accumulated 50 points and was in fourth place overall. To secure a medal, the team needed to close a two-point gap behind third-placed Italy. However, a strong performance by Italian skater Matteo Rizzo prevented Georgia from overtaking the hosts. As a result, Georgia concluded the competition in fourth place, just short of the podium.
The figure skating team event consists of four disciplines, with Georgia’s points distributed as follows:
Ice dance – the Davis–Smolkin pair (7 points)
Pairs skating – the Metelkina–Berulava pair (9 points)
Women’s singles – Anastasia Gubanova** (9 points)
Men’s singles – Nika Egadze (6 points)
