The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering constructive relations with Georgia, the US State Department told Netgazeti.
In a response to the media outlet, the State Department stated that Washington continues to view Georgia as a key partner and remains a strong supporter of the country’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“The United States has been Georgia’s partner of choice for 33 years. We continue to be a steadfast supporter of Georgia’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. The United States looks forward to nurturing a constructive and mutually beneficial relationship with Georgia,” the statement reads.
The State Department also indicated that it is considering specific measures the Georgian government could take to demonstrate its commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
“We will continue to work with the Georgian government on issues affecting our bilateral relationship and the political climate in Georgia. Additionally, we will consider concrete steps that the Georgian authorities can take to reaffirm their commitment to advancing relations between our countries,” the statement said.
Washington further noted that the peace agreement brokered by President Donald Trump between Armenia and Azerbaijan creates what it described as a transformative opportunity for the South Caucasus. According to the State Department, Georgia stands to both contribute to and benefit from the stability and prosperity the agreement seeks to promote.
The remarks come amid ongoing discussions regarding the future direction of US-Georgia relations and regional developments in the South Caucasus.
