On September 10 at 22:30 Tbilisi time, the US Helsinki Commission will review a document on Georgia titled “From Partner to Problem: Georgia’s Anti-American Drift.”
The Commission itself announced the upcoming hearing, noting that it will focus on “the global consequences of Georgia’s authoritarian shift.”
Based on the statement published on the Commission’s official website, a country once considered a US partner is now being steered back into Russia’s orbit by its government.
“Today, Georgian Dream is pulling the country into Russia’s orbit while deepening ties with China and other adversaries of the United States. In recent years, Georgian Dream has dismantled Georgia’s institutions and further undermined its sovereignty by attracting Chinese investments, while simultaneously blocking US businesses’ access to Middle Corridor trade and Central Asia’s rare earth elements,” the statement reads.
