US Embassy: Georgia Hepatitis Elimination Program Progress Report highlights Accomplishments in Hepatitis C and Hepatitis B Elimination in Georgia

US Embassy in Georgia released a statement regarding the Hepatitis Elimination Program in Georgia highlighting accomplishments in this regard in the country.

“With support from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Georgia continues to work towards achieving elimination of Hepatitis C and B. The just released Georgia Hepatitis Elimination Program Progress Report highlights accomplishments in Hepatitis C and Hepatitis B elimination in the country of Georgia. Currently, 2.3 million adults have been screened for hepatitis C virus (HCV), more than 96,000 people with chronic HCV infections have been identified, and more than 78,000 people have been treated. Of those who complete treatment, more than 98% have been cured of the disease. The nationwide serosurvey conducted in 2021 shows that the proportion of the population with chronic HCV infection decreased from 5.4% in 2015 to 1.8% in 2021. For Hepatitis B (HBV), national coverage for childhood vaccination remains high confirming achievement of regional control targets,” reports the embassy.
