US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James C. O’Brien is in Georgia.
Within the framework of the visit, he is likely to meet with the Prime Minister of the Government of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze. Auditions will also be held with opposition parties and the non-governmental sector.
After the meetings, O’Brien will also answer questions from the media.
O’Brien wanted to meet with the honorary chairman of “Georgian Dream”, however, Bidzina Ivanishvili refused.
Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze disseminates information about this.
“There was a request to Bidzina Ivanishvili regarding the meeting with O’Brien to which Bidzina Ivanishvili refused. In addition, during the past months, there were cases when Bidzina Ivanishvili refused to meet with other foreign diplomats and politicians.
In all cases, the reason for the refusal was the same: Bidzina Ivanishvili claimed that he is already under de facto sanctions, he has frozen 2 billion dollars, which, in fact, he entrusted to the West, and this amount turned out to be in the hands of the Global War Party. Therefore, Bidzina Ivanishvili’s position is that he cannot hold any meeting under blackmail, this is his clear position. As soon as the blackmail and de facto sanctions are over, any meeting can be held,” said Irakli Kobakhidze.
He repeated the “Dream” propaganda narrative, as if Ivanishvili was sanctioned by the Global War Party after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and yet he does not succumb to such blackmail.
Kobakhidze also said that despite everything, “Georgian Dream” will adopt the “Russian law” restricting media and non-governmental organizations in the third reading on May 14.
