Good opportunity to discuss key issues on European Union and Georgia agenda with Irakli Garibashvili. Ready to continue working with Georgia to make progress on 12 steps in the Commission Opinion of June 2022 and make the most of the Economic Investment Plan especially to develop Black Sea connectivity projects, – tweeted Ursula Von Der Leyen, President of the European Commission, after meeting with Garibashvili this week.
At the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed hope that the European Commission under Ursula von der Leyen’s leadership will continue Georgia’s support, and that this year will mark yet another historic decision by granting the well-deserved candidate status to Georgia.
The Prime Minister and the President of the European Commission also discussed the importance of the Black Sea Project initiated by Georgia. The parties underlined that this project will bolster the development of the renewable energy sector and scale up transit and trade opportunities between the EU and the South Caucasus Region.
The conversation also touched on Russian aggression in Ukraine and its impact on Georgia, the region, and the world as a whole.
