During their official visit to Washington, D.C., United National Movement (UNM) Chairperson Tina Bokuchava and Secretary General Petre Tsiskarishvili held a meeting with US Congressman Jim Bird.
The UNM leaders thanked Congressman Bird for his support of the bipartisan MEGOBARI Act, calling its passage “a renewed source of hope for Georgia’s democratic forces” and a clear demonstration of the United States’ strong, bipartisan backing of the Georgian people.
In their discussions, the UNM delegation presented a detailed report outlining China’s growing economic and geopolitical influence in Georgia. They warned that Bidzina Ivanishvili’s government is enabling Beijing’s expanding footprint, potentially turning Georgia into “a colony subjected to foreign pressure” and undermining the country’s sovereignty and Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
Tina Bokuchava also underscored Congressman Bird’s influential role on the intelligence subcommittee, describing his consistent support and constructive stance toward Georgia as “vital for the future of Georgian democracy.”
