Unconfirmed reports of casualties after cornice collapse near Tbilisi’s Station Square

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the collapse of a building cornice near Station Square has resulted in casualties.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) released a statement shortly after the incident:

“Upon receiving a report about the collapse of a residential building near ‘Station Square’ in Tbilisi, the Ministry of Internal Affairs immediately mobilized the Emergency Management Service’s firefighters-rescuers and police forces.

Upon arrival, the firefighters promptly evacuated citizens from the area surrounding the collapsed building.

Cleanup of the debris and active search-and-rescue operations are currently underway. Emergency medical personnel are also present on the scene.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs urges all citizens, as well as media representatives at the site, to follow the instructions of MIA personnel and observe safety regulations,” the statement reads.
