Georgian junior karate fighters Uta Poniava and Gigi Alania on Sunday were named the winners of the 2024 European Karate Federation Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships.
Poniava defeated his Turkish rival Mustafa Ogragli with a score of 4:0, claiming the gold medal in the -68 kg weight category of the tournament and becoming the champion for the second time in a row.
At the championship, being held in Georgia for the first time in history, Alania claimed victory over his Ukrainian rival Maksym Viechkanov with a score of 2:0 in the -52 kg category.
So far, the Georgian national team has won two gold medals at the current European championship, in which about 1200 athletes from 49 countries are participating.
