In response to Bidzina Ivanishvili’s statement in Gori regarding Georgians having to apologize to them, de-facto authorities in the Russian-occupied Tskhinvali and Abkhazia regions called for more
precise measures, specifically from the Geneva International Discussions.
In his speech, Ivanishvili blamed external forces as well as the United National Movement for the 2008 war and asserted that Georgians have to find the strength to apologize to the people of “South Ossetia.”
Yuri Vazagov, a de-facto official from Tskhinvali, declared that Ivanishvili’s statement is related to upcoming elections and that he and “South Ossetia” refrain from involvement in Georgian politics.
Atsamaz Bibilov, a politician from Ossetia, urged Georgians to hold themselves accountable for the war and criticized the government’s weakness in properly addressing border issues.
Eduard Kokoity, former leader of Tskhinvali, demanded that Georgia recognize “South Ossetia’s” independence and accept Russia’s conditions for regional peace.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the “Republic of Abkhazia” also expressed their belief that sincere reconciliation actions can lead to peace.
