Traffic has been fully restricted on a section of Georgia’s Military Highway due to a high risk of avalanches, authorities said.
The Roads Department of the Ministry of Infrastructure stated that the level of avalanche danger is high on the Mtskheta–Stepantsminda–Larsi international highway between kilometer 93 and kilometer 107, covering the Gudauri (Post)–Kobi section. As a result, the movement of all types of vehicles is prohibited on this stretch of the road until further notice.
The Roads Department added that traffic on the Mleta–Gudauri section of the highway will be permitted only under a non-stop transit regime, meaning vehicles must pass through without stopping.
The Mtskheta–Stepantsminda–Larsi road is Georgia’s main overland route connecting the country with Russia and plays a critical role in regional transport and trade.
