Freedom House reiterates alarm about proposed foreign agent laws, highlights Georgian citizens’ right to demonstrate is not being safeguarded

Freedom House responded to the ongoing protests in Georgia following the Georgian Parliament’s approval of a draft bill on “transparency of foreign influence” in its first reading on Twitter.

Freedom House stated that they are “alarmed by the violence” between demonstrators and police about the draft foreign agent law in Georgia.

The freedom of Georgian citizens to protest is not being protected, stated Freedom House, and the “fundamental right to peaceful assembly must be protected from petrol bombs, tear gas, and water cannons.”

The post went on to note that Freedom House “continues to urge Georgian authorities to reconsider the bills” and reiterates concern over the proposed foreign agent laws.

We also reiterate our concern over the proposed foreign agent laws and continue to urge Georgian authorities to reconsider the bills. (2/2) https://t.co/RHWofSwuWc
