A temporary parliamentary commission established to study price formation of food products, medicines and fuel has held its first meeting.
The commission’s inaugural session was organizational in nature. Head of the Economic Policy Committee Shota Berekashvili was elected as chair of the commission, while Eka Sepashvili, a member of the People’s Power group, was appointed as deputy chair.
Speaking after the meeting, Berekashvili said the temporary commission will begin working in full capacity starting next week. He noted that the commission will comprehensively examine the relevant sectors, invite sector representatives to Parliament, and discuss existing challenges and possible measures to increase competitiveness, which, according to him, would ultimately be reflected in prices.
“We expect to achieve significant results within the framework of the commission. Constructive and interesting work lies ahead,” Berekashvili said.
The temporary commission will consist of 14 members. From the Georgian Dream faction, the members are Shota Berekashvili, Nino Tsilosani, Maia Bitadze, Paata Kvizhinadze, Vakhtang Turnava, Zaza Lominadze, and Gela Samkharadze.
The For Georgia faction will be represented by Giorgi Sharashidze, Shalva Kereselidze, and Ketevan Bakaradze.
The People’s Power group will also have three members: Guram Macharashvili, Dimitri Khundadze, and Eka Sepashvili. The European Socialists group will be represented by Ilia Injia.
The temporary parliamentary commission will operate for three months.
