Tbilisi City Hall is installing a protection grid on the Chabua Amirejibi Highway to protect the territory from rocks sliding down the slope and onto the road, – said Giorgi Abutidze, Head of the Infrastructure Development Municipal Service.
The work will take one month, and the traffic will be restricted periodically.
“We are observing safety norms on the territory. The road will be closed between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m., and once we start installing the grid, traffic will be completely restricted to one lane of the highway so that even if one small pebble falls, we will be protected,” he noted.
Abutidze remarked that the grid would replace an older one arranged in 2010. He added that specialists are monitoring other “problematic spots” across the city to perform similar works.
A rockfall was observed on a slope of the Chabua Amirejibi Highway, Tbilisi, on Monday.
