The parliamentary delegation conducted a visit to the Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris, where they participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the grave of Nikoloz (Karlo) Chkheidze, the Chairman of the Founding Assembly of the Democratic Republic of Georgia. Additionally, as part of the visit, the Members of Parliament paid tribute to Noe Jordania, the Chairman of the Government of the Democratic Republic of Georgia, and other Georgian family members at Leuville cemetery by placing wreaths on their graves.
“I had the privilege of joining the delegation in Paris to pay tribute to Karlo Chkhaidze, the Chairman of the Founding Assembly of the Democratic Republic of Georgia, by laying a wreath on his grave at Père Lachaise Cemetery,” Speaker of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili stated. “It is our duty to recognize and honor their significant contributions. Karlo Chkhaidze played a vital role in the establishment and advancement of the Georgian parliamentary system, as well as in the consolidation of Georgia’s independence and statehood. Under his leadership, the first legislative body of Georgia operated and adopted the inaugural constitution of Georgia in 1921. Recently, I took the initiative to award Karlo Chkhaidze and the members of the Founding Assembly of the First Republic with the Parliamentary Order of Freedom, acknowledging their exceptional dedication to the development of parliamentarism.”
