Speaker of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili spoke about Levan Ioseliani, as a candidate for Public Defender noting it is an interesting initiative and this issue will be discussed in the majority.
“The majority is interested in the parliament to elect a public defender. This is our task and interest, so we tried our best to offer the opposition a format where they would feel that they are participants and we would also be equal participants. He is a politician and this in itself gives political weight. That’s why we will discuss it. As for political bias, there are declared politicians who are more neutral than some non-politicians who are more politically biased, whether in the media or non-governmental sector,” Papuashvili said.
Earlier today, the political party Citizens nominated Ioseliani as a candidate for Public Defender.
“Our party has made a tough decision, but I am deeply convinced it is right for the country. We all see that there are only a few people in this parliament, maybe only one, around whom a consensus is possible. I want to present Leven Ioseliani as a candidate for a public defender,” stated one of the leaders of the party, Aleko Elisashvili.
