The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili met with the Vice-President of the Senate of the Italian Parliament, Gian Marco Centinaio.
The parties expressed a positive assessment of the dynamic and fruitful relations between Georgia and Italy. Special attention was given to cooperation in various areas, including people-to-people relations, energy, tourism, trade, and economic ties.
The Vice President of the Italian Senate affirmed Italy’s strong support for Georgia’s territorial integrity, as well as its European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations. Centinaio emphasized Italy’s readiness to assist Georgia in its path towards European Union membership and to foster deeper parliamentary cooperation.
In response, Papuashvili highlighted Italy’s significant role as a founding member of the European Union in shaping the European future. He expressed hope that Italy would support the granting of EU candidate country status to Georgia. The Speaker also expressed gratitude to the Italian side for recognizing Georgia as a safe country and providing opportunities for Georgian citizens to legally work in Italy.
