“Considering our history in general or the recent past, Georgia has done its best in order to make progress in terms of getting closer to the European Union, to get the status and not only, and also to open negotiations regarding the membership,” stated Chairman of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili.
He pointed out that now, the ball is in the court of the EU, adding everything has been done by them.
“If we take and compare any candidate country and look at the issue from this point of view, of course, Georgia is not yet ready to be a member of the European Union, but we are only talking about candidacy. If we compare with other candidate countries, Georgia deserves to be at the same stage of rapprochement with the European Union as the candidate countries,” Papuashvili stated.
He noted that European Union must make a decision on how it sees its own future in this region.
