A worsening snowstorm has engulfed western and central Georgia, and its effects are being felt even in the capital, Tbilisi.
Nearly half a meter of snow fell overnight in central Georgia. Cleanup crews and salt-spreaders are struggling to keep up. Numerous trucks and cars have been abandoned at the sides of the road.
This morning, the highway after Gori is down to one lane each side and vehicles are moving along at a snail’s pace for safety.
The Rikoti section of the highway is relatively clear and traffic is flowing well.
