Abkhazia is a part of the Russian world, – said the so-called security council secretary of occupied Abkhazia, Sergey Shamba.
“We have the kind of relationship with Russia that despite the collapse of our Soviet society, feelings still exist. The Abkhaz society is adjusted to the Russian world and participates in the creation of the Russian world. We want to be and are part of that world,” said Shamba.
He claimed that thanks to the Russian language, Abkhazia was able to familiarize itself with world culture.
“It must be said that Russian society has also adopted many traditions and some cultural moments [from us]. This enrichment was mutual. The great Russian culture, of course, had a greater influence on the formation of many nations during the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union. Abkhazia has always attracted the attention of the Russian creative intelligentsia – writers, artists and others,” said Shamba.
