School uniforms will be reintroduced in public schools from the next academic year as part of a pilot programme covering pupils from Years 1 to 6, Education Minister Givi Mikanadze announced during the presentation of the government’s new education reform package.
Mikanadze said the state will offer assistance to socially vulnerable families to ensure the transition is accessible for everyone.
“We have decided that school uniforms will be mandatory for all pupils from Year 1 to Year 6 in public schools, within a pilot scheme that takes into account the needs of socially vulnerable households. All families assessed by the Ministry of Health at 60,000 points or below will receive state support for purchasing uniforms,” the minister noted.
