Former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili starts a hunger strike.
“Today my most basic right to attend my own trial was neglected. This is a violation of all Georgian and international norms, so I am forced to resort to an extreme form of protest, a hunger strike. Of course, I’m aware of all the risks given my current state of health, but I’ll be on hunger strike until I get solid guarantees to at least include a video link to my process. There is a limit to all mockery and humiliation,” Saakashvili’s letter reads.
Today, a trial was held on the issue of postponement of the sentence for the former president of Georgia.
Saakashvili was not given the opportunity to attend the trial either physically or remotely. The penitentiary service refused to involve him remotely in the process, and the “Vivamed” clinic refused his physical attendance.
